Additional Reading

Readers wishing to delve more into the 1840’s Irish Famine have a plenthora of resources to choose from.  Two seminal works, written for general audiences, are:  The Great Hunger by Cecil Woodham-Smith (London, 1962); and, The Great Calamity by Christine Kinealy (Roberts Rinehart Publishers, 1996).  For an understanding of the economic/historical  impact of the blight, I recommend anything by Professor Cormac O’Grada (University College, Dublin); ditto for anything penned by Professor Chris Morash of NUI Maynooth.
